Biafra Day: How Masked Gunmen Killed Soldiers in Aba Over Sit-At-Home Order

Aba, in Abia State, Nigeria, is currently a hot zone following the reported killing of soldiers on Thursday by unknown gunmen who were enforcing the sit-at-home order imposed on residents by Biafra agitators to mark what was described as Biafra day.

About 15 masked men were said to have ambushed a military patrol team at Obikabia junction in Aba and opened fire on them.

Some reports say two soldiers were killed while others are reporting four military personnel died in the onslaught.

The attackers also set the soldiers’ patrol van ablaze. A video circulating online shows the gunmen firing repeatedly before setting the military vehicle on fire.

The attackers used an SUV jeep and a Sienna to carry out their deadly operation.

Currently, there’s a sit-at-home order in effect across the southeast, to honour the memory of those who died in the Nigerian Civil War. The agitators tagged the memorial ‘Biafra Day.’

According to correspondents in the region, this has led most residents to stay indoors, wary of potential violence.
