In the letter, dated July 21, Lukman cautioned that such an endorsement could have adverse consequences for both President Bola Tinubu and Ganduje himself.
The letter, titled ‘APC National Chairman: PGF should serve as the Conscience of APC,’ was also addressed to President Tinubu, members of the APC National Working Committee, and Ganduje.
A political figure from Kaduna, Lukman expressed his concern about the possibility that the APC governors, led by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzondimma, might be considering adopting Ganduje as the party’s next leader.
He stated that while it is the right of the Progressive Governors to endorse a candidate for the position of National Chairman, making such a decision public without consulting other party leaders and organs is unfair to Tinubu, other leaders of the party, and even Ganduje himself.
Lukman pointed out that the move appears to disregard party procedures and the significance of party organs, which had been previously criticized when Senator Abdullahi Adamu and former National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, were involved.
The APC leader urged the party’s governors to fulfill their traditional role as the party’s conscience and adhere to the party’s zoning arrangement, which designates the position of National Chairman to the North-Central region.
