The government recently stopped subsidising electricity for those enjoying power for up to 20-hour, that’s Band A category customers.
The stoppage is by means of tariff increase for the group from N68 to N225 per kilowatt, about 300 percent increment.

A decision met with public indignation.
In another attempt to push back at the attack, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, while speaking on a popular Hausa audience participatory programme of Radio Nigeria Kaduna called “Hannu Da Yawa” in Kaduna on Saturday, said money made from the subsidy removal will be used to develop infrastructure in the power sector.
This, is according to a statement his Special Assistant (Media), Rabiu Ibrahim.

The latter related what his principal said on the programme saying, “Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that the over N1tn that would be saved from the withdrawal of electricity subsidy will be reinvested in improving power supply and the provision of social services for the country.”
He added, “Idris emphasised that 85 per cent of the population who falls under the different categorisations of the new electricity supply regime still enjoys the subsidy.”READ FULL ARTICLE HERE>
