A specialized Canadian team has arrived in Nigeria to investigate the cause of the recent explosion at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja, which reportedly killed two persons.
It would recalled that the incident occurred on November 6, 2023, resulting in a tragic toll with two lives lost and two individuals sustaining injuries. In the aftermath, the commission suspended its regular operations, except for the visa application centres, which remained operational in Abuja and Lagos.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Demilade Kosemani, a spokesperson for the Canadian High Commission, disclosed that the investigative team is set to collaborate with relevant Nigerian authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident.
The team’s mission is to unravel the explosion’s circumstances, shedding light on the events leading up to the tragic incident.

“Following an explosion in the generator room at the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria on November 6 that claimed two lives and left two others injured, a team of technical experts from Canada arrived in Abuja to conduct a formal investigation to determine the factors and conditions that led to the explosion.
“Efforts are being undertaken to coordinate the work of the Canadian investigation team with the relevant Nigerian authorities in line with their respective mandates,” the statement reads.
“As the investigation unfolds, the Canadian High Commission remains committed to cooperation with Nigerian authorities, aiming to ascertain the facts surrounding the explosion and contribute to resolving this unfortunate incident.”
