Cartoon Network and HBO Max have unveiled their latest project, “Iyanu: The Series.” This animated series draws heavily from Nigerian culture and mythology, offering a fresh narrative that promises to captivate audiences worldwide.
“Iyanu: The Series” is an adaptation of the popular graphic novel series “Iyanu: Child of Wonder,” created by Roye Okupe and produced under his YouNeek Studios in collaboration with Dark Horse Comics. With Lion Forge Entertainment at the helm of production, the series is set to bring a rich tapestry of Nigerian folklore to the international stage.

The story centers on Iyanu, a teenage orphan with a thirst for knowledge about her country’s rich history and ancient arts. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she discovers her extraordinary powers, reminiscent of those possessed by legendary heroes from ages past. Accompanied by her two closest friends, Biyi and Toye, Iyanu embarks on a thrilling journey to confront malevolent forces that threaten her homeland.

An All-Nigerian Cast Brings the Story to Life

Serah Johnson, a trailblazer and the first Nigerian to win a Society of Voice Arts Award, leads the ensemble. She is joined by a host of celebrated Nollywood talents including Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Stella Damasus, Shaffy Bello, and Ike Ononye, who lend their voices to bring the vibrant characters to life.
