Another member of the Nance family has joined the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Cavs have signed Pete Nance to a 10-day deal, their first of the 2023-24 season. Nance, a rookie who was with the Cleveland Charge in the G league, is the younger brother of former Cav Larry Nance Jr. and the son of Cavs legend Larry Nance Jr. Unlike the elder two Nances, Pete Nance will wear No. 8.

A 6’11 forward who played college basketball at Northwestern for four seasons and then North Carolina for one, Nance went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft. He then signed with the Cavs for Summer League before ending up with the Charge after training camp. In 22 G League games, he averaged 13.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3 assists per game. On Jan. 10, he posted the first triple-double by a Charge player in two years with a 27-point, 12-assist, 10-rebound game.

“Part of what we do is about making dreams come true, and anytime a guy gets the opportunity to be in the NBA it’s a dream come true,” Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff said, per cleveland.com. “Obviously, his circumstances here with his brother being here and obviously his father being here, it’s even more unique and special. Can’t be happier for him. It’s a guy who’s worked his tail off to get here.

“He pays attention, he watches, he locks in, and then he puts the work in. You see how versatile he is and all the things that he’s capable of. He can rebound, he can pass, he can score, he defends multiple positions. So that’s what the league is about now — those Swiss army knives at that size with that athleticism.”

Nance’s first game is Friday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks.

To fill Nance’s roster spot, the Charge acquired Brian Bowen II. Bowen II, a 6’6” wing, was brought in from the available player pool. He spent last two seasons with the Iowa Wolves.

What Nance’s NBA future looks like is unclear. He is unlikely to play much for the Cavs while he’s on his 10-day deal, as he was likely brought in for depth purposes for this 10-day deal and up to two more 10-day deals after. But perhaps he pops in some way, extending the Nance Cavalier legacy.
