Saudi ports reported a 12% rise in containers handled to 732,300 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in September 2023, compared to 655,800 TEUs in the same month last year.
In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that outbound containers jumped by more than 18% to 234,700 in September, from 198,500 in the prior-year period. The number of inbound containers also increased by 17% year-on-year (YoY) to 217,900, compared to 186,000 containers in September 2022.
The number of transshipment containers rose by nearly 3% YoY to 279,700 in September. Foodstuff dropped by nearly 27% YoY to 1.6 million tons.
The number of vessels improved by 12% YoY to 1,040 in September. Further, about 72,900 passengers were received at Saudi ports, a rise of 70% YoY. The number of vehicles saw a 20% increase YoY to 83,100.
