The are indications that the Dangote Refinery located in Lagos is set to commence production of refined petroleum products.
According to industry sources and tanker tracking Data, S&P Global, the much expected production of refined petroleum products is set to commence soon as the facility has now received its first shipment of crude.
According to the sources, OTIS Tanker, carrying 950,000 barrel cargo of Nigeria’s Agbami crude, set sail on December 6 and was en route Lekki, the nearest land port to Dangote’s offshore crude receiving terminal.
“The tanker Is expected to arrive on December 7 around 8pm. This shipment marks the initiation of crude supplies for the refinery’s operations,” the source said.
Economic Confidential recalls that the Dangote Refinery was commissioned by ex-President Muhammadu Buhari before leaving office and it was meant to commence production in August.
Nigerians were however disappointed as the the facility did not fulfil the August promise at a time people were grappling with high cost of transportation in the wake of fuel subsidy removal.
It is believed in many quarters that commencement of local production by the Dangote Refinery could cause a slight reduction in the pump price of petroleum products across the country.
