Elon Musk is plowing ahead with his plan to turn Twitter into X.
The billionaire announced on Saturday he was ditching Twitter’s bird logo and replacing it with a large “X.” Later that day, he asked his followers to suggest a logo to be used as an interim design, later opting for an “art deco” design, which he also made his new Twitter profile picture.
“Going with minimalist art deco on the upper right,” Musk said in response to a set of logos posted by Sawyer Merritt. “Probably changes later, certainly will be refined.”
By Monday morning, the logo had been projected onto the side of Twitter’s headquarters, added to employees’ Twitter bios, and changed on the desktop version of the platform.
While the new logo does have some fans, others have taken issue with the rebrand and design. Twitter users have been mocking the design with memes and saying the change is pushing them to leave the app altogether.
“I will start bawling If that logo turns emo and has an X on It,” one user said, who shared a photo of Twitter’s bird logo.
Representatives for Twitter responded to Insider’s request for comment with a statement that did not address the question.
Musk has previously spoken about his vision for X to be an all-encompassing “everything app” similar to the popular Chinese app WeChat. The Tesla boss said when he acquired Twitter last year the platform would speed up the development of the long-discussed app by three to five years.
