The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has told intending pilgrims for the 2024 Hajj not to pay any administrative charge or any fee to any official or agents aside the extra fare that has already been announced.
The Commission had recently announced an increase in this year’s Hajj fares to N.8.5 million, urging pilgrims to raise extra N1.9 million.
But according to a statement by NAHCON’s Assistant Director in charge of Public Affairs, Fatima Sanda Usara, some unscrupulous individuals are going about demanding administrative fees from unsuspecting pilgrims alongside the official additional fees.
The Hajj Commission urged intending pilgrims to report anyone making such demands from them.
The statement read in full:
“The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) hereby issues another important warning to intending pilgrims regarding payment of extra Hajj fares.
The Commission has not requested pilgrims to pay any additional administrative charges beyond the stated amount and any one that makes such a request on our behalf is violating the role and responsibility of NAHCON as the regulatory body.
Collection of any extra charges are not authorised. Any pilgrim asked to pay extra charges should forward name of person making the request and location, along with evidence of the request or payment as shown below.
