The Saudi ports reported a 12.48% increase in the number of inbound containers to 265,148 TEUs in March, compared to 235,738 TEUs in the same month last year.
In a statement, the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) said that outbound containers also rose by nearly 8.56% to 212,672 TEUs in March, from 195,895 TEUs in the prior-year period.
Similarly, the total cargo handled grew by 3.77% to reach 19.65 million tons, compared to 18.93 million tons in the same period last year.
The general cargo leapt by 53.74% to reach 804,837 tons, compared to 523,513 tons in the same month of 2023.
The maritime traffic featured a decrease by 3.01%, reaching 968 ships, compared to 998 in 2023. Meanwhile, the number of passengers decreased by 51.01%, reaching 62,507, compared to 127,599 last year.
The number of cars decreased by 17.34% to 67,638, compared to 81,826 in 2023.
