Synopsis
A new ‘Jetsons Law’ has introduced flying cars to be classified into the road law, starting from August 1. Now, drivers will be able to take to the skies with this new rule by the State of Minnesota. License for such vehicles will also be issued accordingly, suggest reports.
Now drivers of aerial vehicles, which can also operate on-road, will fall under a new road law if they are based in the State of Minnesota. The new law imposed by the state’s lawmakers suggest that vehicles that can fly will be categorized in a similar manner like on-road vehicles, which is a first of its kind law in all of the United States.
Airborne vehicles to see new road law in Minnesota from Aug 1
For these kinds of vehicles, drivers will now need to use tail numbers instead of the usual traditional license plates. This new law is somehow bringing back memories of Ronald Weasley’s flying car from the Harry Potter films, as the regulations are somehow created in a way that aircrafts and vehicles are being juxtaposed. However, there is another clause to this new road law that the vehicles which are aerial in nature, must abide by the regulations imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). These same rules will apply when the vehicle lands at an airport or a landing area.
Why is the Minnesota road law named ‘Jetsons’?
Minnesota, meanwhile, is the second state, in the country to introduce such a law around flying cars, looking at the increasing number of these vehicles. The law has been named after ‘Jetsons’, after popular 80’s cartoon shows, that had back then initially popularized the concept of flying cars in the city. The Jetsons’ show creators had already predicted decades ago about these concepts that have now become a reality, leading to the adaptation of the creators in the law’s nomenclature.
Meanwhile manufacturers of these vehicles are facing everyday problems around the regulations around these vehicles and their operation. Some companies are so dejected by a few regulations, that they have decided to stop manufacturing of such aerial vehicles altogether.
