According to the new amendment to the 1999 Constitution, Tinubu and governors must submit the names of their nominees within 60 days of taking office for confirmation by the Senate or state House of Assembly.
Some of the former governors that have been mentioned as potential cabinet members include Nasir el-Rufai, Abdullahi Ganduje, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, and Nyesom Wike.
In Lagos State, Senator Tokunbo Abiru is being considered for the position of Finance Minister, which would allow former governor Akinwunmi Ambode to replace him as the Senator representing Lagos East.
The crisis in Delta State has created uncertainty about who will be appointed minister, with Festus Keyamo and Otega Emerhor being mentioned as potential candidates.
In Cross River State, several individuals, including former governor Ben Ayade, Victor Ndoma-Egba, Dr. Betta Edu, Senator John Owan Enoh, Soni Abang, Akin Rocket, and Ben Akak, are vying for the ministerial nomination.
Tinubu is reportedly looking to accommodate politicians and experts who can help achieve national cohesion, even if they are not members of the party.
It is rumored that Tinubu has met with former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Okezie Ikpeazu, and Ugwuanyi is said to be a likely candidate for a ministerial position.
In Ebonyi, there are rumors that former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim may also be considered.
