The Managing Director of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Engr. Yusuf Usman Yahaya has expressed confidence in the ability of the workers of the Nigerian Electricity sector to give the Country the much-needed energy security and sustainable electricity supply.
Engr. Yusuf Yahaya made the remark Friday in Kaduna when he received the national leadership of the two Labour Unions in the Electricity sector who were in Kaduna to participate in the signing of the revised Condition of Service of Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company.
He stressed the importance of harmonious industrial relations in the Company in particular, while calling on the labour leaders to ensure further alignments of common goals and objectives of the two parties, the workers and their employers in order to have sustainable development in the sector.
The electricity Boss described “the 2023 Revised Condition of Service signed by the two parties today as not only a reference document, but also a framework for more constructive engagements and alignment of common goals and objectives of the Company and that of the workforce.”
“The relationship between the Management and the Labour Unions under my watch has been cordial and we shall not take that for granted; we are in partnership in the mutual interest of both the Company and the workforce; we shall continue to strengthen what is working for us and collectively work on areas that need improvement”, he said.
Engr. Yusuf Yahaya charged the leadership of both the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Company, SSAEAC and the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE to educate their members on the significance of having an approved condition of service which described as “a solemn commitment from both sides to discharge their duties deligently”.
“The Revised Condition of Service has placed certain rights and obligations on all of us.
I pledge to ensure that the Management under my leadership live-up to its obligations; I therefore charge the leadership of the unions to bring to the attention of all their members, the obligations placed on the workforce which we are all duty bound to comply with”, he reiterated.
In their separate remarks, the President General of SSAEC, Comrade Benedizu Chika and the President of NUEE, Comrade Martins Ezegwu commended the Managing Director for what they described as “putting the welfare of the workers on the front burner”.
According to them, they have observed a significant paradigm shift in workers welfare and discharge of other statutory obligations by the Company and called on the Managing Director to look for ways of settling inherited unpaid workers’ pension.
High points of the event was the signing and exchange of the 2023 Revised Condition of Service.
