Kano: Soaring Land Prices in Hotoro Area Attributed to Maryam Abacha American University

Land agents in Hotoro GRA have observed a significant increase in land prices due to the presence of the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, situated at Kwanar Maggi in the area.

According to Muhammad Najume, one of the land agents, the price surge began immediately after the university commenced academic activities. A plot of land that sold for N20 million in 2023 now commands a price of approximately N150 million or higher.

“This rise can be attributed to both the economic situation and the university’s establishment in the area,” Najume explained. Interestingly, this trend isn’t limited to Hotoro alone; it has also affected the neighboring Kawo Community.

Mallam Isa, another agent, revealed that houses that were priced at N500,000 just three years ago are now selling for N3 million. People are purchasing older houses to convert them into hostels for accommodating students.

Musa Okuri, a resident and house owner, emphasized the positive impact of the university. He stated, “The university management recently renovated one of the community secondary schools, naming it after the founder, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo. The establishment of new private universities in the Northern region not only adds value to the local economy but also contributes to city development.”

Usman Yahaya, a businessman in the area who sells Shawarma and Burgers, echoed the sentiment. “Before the university’s establishment, we struggled to make a profit. Now, with increased security and bustling activity, we’ve seen substantial growth. This is a remarkable development,” he said.

Certainly! Here’s the continuation of the narrative:

Usman Yahaya, a local businessman specializing in Shawarma and Burgers, enthusiastically shared the transformative impact of the university on the area. He explained, “Before the university’s establishment, our profits were meager. However, with improved security and increased foot traffic, we now make substantial gains. The once quiet place has become bustling with activity. This development is truly remarkable.”

Ibrahim Haladu, another businessman who owns a provision store, echoed similar sentiments. He emphasized the positive change brought about by the university’s presence: “My business is flourishing, and the area is abuzz with activity. Employment opportunities have opened up, all thanks to the university.”

Haruna Tijjani Kwa, a Business Administration student at the university, resides in Kawo. He described the university and its surroundings as conducive to learning. “I’m thoroughly enjoying my stay here,” he said proudly. “Studying at the Maryam Abacha American University is an honor.”

Umma Salma Auwal Muhammad, a law student who traveled from Maiduguri, praised the university for its excellent learning environment and dedicated lecturers. “Being here in Hotoro feels like home,” she added, appreciating the warm treatment from the local community.

The Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria has not only elevated education but also catalyzed economic growth and community development in the region. Its impact resonates far beyond the classroom walls.
