Key Facts
Police executed the search warrant in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson, Nevada, on Monday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed to Forbes.
The warrant comes nearly three decades after Shakur, one of the most influential rappers of his generation, was murdered on the night of September 7, 1996 at the age of 25.
An investigation is ongoing into the murder—Nevada does not have a statute of limitations on homicide cases.
A spokesperson for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told Forbes the department has no further comment on the search warrant.
Key Background
Shakur, a six-time Grammy Award nominee, rose to stardom in the mid 90s with singles including “Dear Mama,” “California Love,” “Changes” and “All Eyez on Me.” He was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting on the night of September 7, 1996, while riding in a car with Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight, and died one week later. His murder was one of two fatal drive-by shootings that shook the hip-hop world in a span of just over six months—Christopher Wallace, better known as the Notorious B.I.G. was killed in a drive-by shooting on March 9, 1997.
