Mace set for £90m Natural History Museum storage hub

Mace will now deliver pre-construction services including design and procurement of the 25,000m2 centre at Thames Valley Science Park.

Subject to planning permission next year, the Museum will begin construction at the University of Reading-owned site in Shinfield.

The project should complete in 2027, when the Museum will start transporting 28 million specimens to the storage facility.

This will include collections of mammal, fossil mammal, fossil invertebrates, ocean bottom deposit and associated library material. Alongside the collections, state-of-the-art labs will also be constructed to improve and transform research capabilities.

Other members of the project team include CPC Project Services as project managers, Arcadis as cost consultants, and Ramboll as M&E and civil & structural engineer.

The Museum is committed to achieving a net-zero carbon building in both construction and operation.
