Today on July 30, Manu-Sarabjot beat South Korea’s Lee Wonho and Oh Ye Jin 16-10 in the Bronze Medal play-off match. With this medal, India’s medal tally increases to two in the Paris Olympics. Both Bhaker and Sarabjot shot consistently with regular 10s in the series against the Koreans.
On July 28, Bhaker brought home her first medal in Paris 2024, a bronze in the air pistol event. This accomplishment marks her second Olympic appearance, having previously qualified by finishing fifth in the women’s 25m pistol event at the 2023 Asian Shooting Championships.
Reflecting on her success, Bhaker shared, “Focus on karma, not on the outcome of the karma. That was running in my head. I thought, ‘do your thing and let it all be.’” She emphasised the importance of concentrating on actions rather than results, likening it to planting seeds with care without obsessing over what will grow from them. By directing energy towards performing actions with intention and integrity, one can let go of anxiety about the outcomes and allow life’s natural flow.
Born in Haryana, Bhaker began shooting at the age of 14, shortly after the 2016 Rio Olympics. “She impulsively decided to try her hand at shooting and loved it. Within a week, Manu Bhaker asked her father to get her a sport shooting pistol to hone her craft,” her biography on the Olympic portal stated.
