Jose Iglesias Candelita already has one very successful career, but apparently, that’s not enough for him. The Mets shortstop is working on becoming a musical superstar as well, and as of this week, he’s well on his way.

The athlete earns his first No. 1 hit on a Billboard ranking this frame. The baseball player and singer’s “OMG” debuts atop the Latin Digital Song Sales chart, which ranks, as its name suggests, the bestselling Latin-only tunes in the country.

Billboard reports that “OMG” sold 1,000 copies in the past tracking frame. That’s not a large enough sum for the title to appear on non-genre-specific lists, like the Digital Song Sales chart, or even the Hot 100, but it turned out to easily be a sizable enough sum for Candelita to conquer the Latin ranking.

In addition to his own fame, Candelita is promoting “OMG” however he can. The tune received some mentions in the sports-related press, and he also performed the tune at Citi Field in New York City following the Mets’ win against the Houston Astros in late June.

All that attention has helped “OMG” become Candelita’s most-streamed song on Spotify as well. The tune recently passed a quarter-million plays on the platform. Another one of his tracks, “No Voy a Volver,” is only about 13,000 streams behind his latest single.

Candelita releases music under just his last name. He also doesn’t appear to be signed to any label, as all the songs he’s shared thus far have been credited simply to a company called, simply, Candelita.

According to his Spotify page, Candelita has released half a dozen songs. He started his music career last summer when he dropped “Tambor” in August. All but one of his tracks are solo affairs, but he’s also teamed up with fellow Latin musician Lenier for “No Voy a Volver,” which came out in February of this year.
