Benedict Peters, Nigerian billionaire and renowned philanthropist, is currently contemplating venturing into the lithium mining industry within Zimbabwe according to reports.
Benedict Peters, gained significant attention by initiating a platinum mining endeavor in Zimbabwe via his mining firm, Bravura Holdings Ltd in 2019. This venture involved the acquisition of a 3,000-hectare (7,413-acre) concession with intentions to establish a mine in Selous, a region situated approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe, and near existing platinum mines.
Nevertheless, according to a report from Africa Intelligence, it seems that Benedict Peters’ initial enthusiasm for the platinum mine project in the Maflox Claims area of Selous has diminished since his arrival in Zimbabwe in 2019, just before Emmerson Mnangagwa’s election.
It appears that Peters’ local company, Bravura, has struggled to meet regulatory obligations and fulfill its investment commitments, prompting a change in direction. Subsequently, the company has shifted its focus discreetly towards a lithium deposit located in Kamativi, a mining town in the Matabeleland North province of Zimbabwe.
