Bam Nuttall is leaving a delayed road-build project, National Highways has announced.
The scheme to build a link road between the M54 and M6 motorways, valued at between £175m and £200m, includes a new link road of approximately 2.5km between the two motorways, as well as new junctions.
Planning consent was granted by the transport secretary in April 2022 following a six-month deferment of the decision due to “environmental considerations”.
National Highways announced a further delay in October, saying that preparatory work would begin in 2023, rather than 2022 as previously planned, to allow for “further detailed designs” to be completed.
The body has now said it has been reviewing how it will work with its supply chain “so the building of the scheme has as little impact as possible on the local community and environment. Consequently, Bam Nuttall Ltd’s involvement in this project will come to an end.”
National Highways regional delivery director Anita Prashar said: “We are working with our supply chain to identify a new delivery partner for the scheme and we will set out when construction will start as soon as possible after that.
“We are committed to building this link road, separating local and long-distance traffic and improving journey times.”
In recent months, Costain and Galliford Try have also left National Highways contracts. The agency did not comment on the reasons for these departures when contacted by Construction News.
Bam Nuttall has been approached for comment.
