In a tragic incident, a policeman identified as “Freedom” kills a school girl, Adeleye Eniola, an SS1 student of Mayigi Community High School, Ilashe, in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State. The officer, attached to the Ilaro Area Command, allegedly struck and killed the student with his vehicle while in pursuit of a motorcyclist.
The speeding police vehicle also left other students injured, compounding the grievous nature of the incident.
Eyewitnesses on the scene recounted the horrifying event, emphasizing the reckless actions of the policeman in the pursuit that led to the tragic demise of the school girl. The community’s youths, united under the Ipokia Local Government Youth Forum (IPYF), swiftly condemned the police officer’s conduct, denouncing it as “unprofessional and barbaric.”
Adeyemi Olusegun, the secretary of IPYF, expressed concern over the recurring instances of the Nigeria Police Force’s alleged disregard for human rights and unprofessional conduct in discharging their duties.
The youth group accused the police force of training officers to engage in actions that infringe upon citizens’ rights, emphasizing that the incident in Ipokia Local Government is another example of the unchecked behavior of law enforcement.
Furthermore, the IPYF criticized the police man for responding to the students’ protest by arresting and tear-gassing them. They asserted that such actions only compound the tragedy and underscore the need for accountability within the police force.
The youth group demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the police officer responsible for the tragic incident, calling for justice for Adeleye Eniola. Despite attempts to seek the police’s response, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Omolola Odutola, remained unresponsive to calls and messages, leaving the community in search of answers and justice for the loss of a young life.
