An accounting and consulting firm is trialling having its staff work for nine days in a fortnight but be paid for 10.
The trial launched at Grant Thornton New Zealand on 1 January 2024 and aims to refresh staff, improve well being, and attract and retain talent.
In a statement, the firm’s national managing partner Russell Moore said the trial was believed to be the first in the country’s professional services industry.
Moore said many of the professional services’ workforce were reporting burnout and bold steps were necessary to tackle this.
Supporting staff in this way will in turn strengthen the client experience, he said.
“This is the gift of time. Our people will benefit from the extra time to pursue hobbies, catch up on personal admin, or to simply decompress and recharge. It also aligns with our progressive family workplace policies including flexible working and our industry leading parental leave policy.”
The firm will engage closely with clients throughout to ensure their experience meets expectations, Moore said.
