NIPOST Staff Protest Odeyemi’s Appointment as CEO

Some members of staff of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) have shut down the head office of the agency in Abuja to protest against the appointment of Tola Odeyemi as Chief Executive Officer/Post Master General.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had last week effected some changes in the leadership of communication agencies including NIPOST.

Tinubu had approved the appointment of Odeyemi as the CEO of NIPOST through a statement issued by the Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale.

However, moments after Odeyemi’s appointment was made public, there were reports that the sacked Post Master-General, Adeyemi Adepoju, had been reinstated.

In a viral video, Adepoju was seen addressing some staff of NIPOST who claimed Tinubu had reappointed him.

This led to another round of controversy as the protesting workers on Monday denied entry to the newly appointed NIPOST CEO, Odeyemi.

The angry members of staff said they did this because her appointment was against their wish.

The workers, who futher said they preferred Adepoju, also chanted solidarity songs and wielded placards during their protest.
