The sudden and tragic demise of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad still leaves many fans and family clamoring for answers. However, amidst the growing controversies, a major twist has surfaced. The U.S.-based NMS Labs, previously cited by the Lagos state government as having conducted a toxicology test to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death, has outright denied any involvement.
In November 2023, an attorney representing the Lagos state government announced during a session at the Coroner’s Court that a toxicology test, essential for uncovering the cause of Mohbad’s untimely death, was performed in the United States.
This was supported by statements from Gbenga Omotoso, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, citing NMS Labs in Pennsylvania as the location where the tests were conducted.
However, recent investigations have revealed a stark contradiction. NMS Labs has responded to inquiries with a definitive statement: there are no records of such a test linked to Mohbad. This revelation casts significant doubt on the previous claims and has intensified the outcry for justice and transparency concerning the circumstances of the singer’s death.
Is Mohbad’s death about to be swept under the carpet?
The contradiction between the Lagos state government’s statements and the U.S. lab’s denial has added layers of complexity to an already convoluted situation. Mohbad’s death in September 2023 sparked widespread speculation and debates, particularly considering his high-profile departure from Marlian Music and his rocky relationship with label head Naira Marley.
In light of the conflicting reports, Esther Dede, a Client Services Associate at NMS Labs, commented, “Unfortunately, we do not have a case for that patient.” She added that any disclosure of patient information would require authorization, adhering to HIPAA privacy regulations.
