Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), reiterated his commitment to fostering partnerships with South Korea and Turkey during their recent visits to his office.
When the Ambassador of South Korea to Nigeria, Kim Young-Chae, paid him a visit, Mr. Wike praised South Korea’s vocational education model and expressed his desire to establish a similar system in the FCT. He also emphasized the importance of hands-on learning in vocational schools and proposed a collaboration with South Korea to enhance vocational education in the region.
Ambassador Young-Chae informed the minister about South Korea’s collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Rural Electrification Agency to create a mini electricity grid in the FCT. Additionally, South Korea plans to support young entrepreneurs through a grant project and enhance educational initiatives in the region.
During his meeting with the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Hidayet Bayrakter, Mr. Wike highlighted the potential for agricultural development in the FCT due to its vast arable land. He welcomed the idea of collaboration with Turkey in this sector and expressed interest in discussing opportunities for Turkish companies to contribute to the Abuja metro rail line project.
Mr. Wike also appealed for a review of Turkey’s visa policy, which currently offers short-term, single-entry visas, suggesting that a more accommodating policy would facilitate business collaborations.
