Residents of Akoko North East and Akoko North West federal constituencies in Ondo State are out in their numbers to elect a member to represent them in the House of Representatives.
BusinessDay reports that the seat became vacant due to the resignation of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the Minister of Interior last year.
Our correspondent, who also monitored the election, could see the presence of heavy security personnel stationed at junctions and other places to maintain law and order during the election.
As early as 7 a.m., heavy security had guarded the major roads entering the two local governments.
Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigeria Army (NA), were seen at strategic locations in the two councils.
Personnel of police and civil defence were also seen at polling centres, just as security men in patrol vehicles were also on ground.
The officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) arrived early at most of the polling centres in Ikare-Akoko while many electorates were seen checking their names on the voter register pasted on walls and boards.
Also, there were no commercial activities in the town as shops and markets were locked and only a few commercial motorcyclists were seen plying the road as at 7:30 am.
