The pathologists who carried out the autopsy results of Nigerian music star Ilerioluwa Aloba, known professionally as Mohbad, have failed to determine the exact cause of his death. This announcement was made by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wahab Shittu, during a press briefing after a coroner’s inquest this Wednesday in Lagos.
According to the pathologist’s report presented in court, the body of the late singer had significantly decomposed by the time the autopsy was conducted, which severely hampered the effectiveness of the toxicology tests. “The cause of death cannot be determined,” stated Shittu, echoing the pathologist’s conclusions. The extensive decomposition meant that crucial evidence that could point to the cause of death was lost, leaving investigators and family members without answers.
The pathologist also hinted at the possibility that Mohbad’s death could have been due to a reaction to drugs administered before his demise. However, this remains speculative as the tests could not conclusively link the drugs to the cause of death due to the state of the body.
“He does not know whether it is those drugs that actually led to his death,” Shittu relayed from the pathologist’s report, underscoring the uncertainty that still surrounds the exact circumstances of Mohbad’s passing.
As the community seeks closure, further forensic tests are anticipated. Richard Somiari, the Director of Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, informed during the inquest that additional results are expected in the coming weeks. “We explored multiple possibilities, including poisoning, but no actual cause was confirmed,” said Somiari, highlighting the ongoing efforts to determine the truth behind Mohbad’s sudden death.
The center has ensured stringent security and monitoring protocols for handling and testing the samples, aiming to maintain the integrity of the results. These measures are crucial to avoid any tampering or contamination that could skew the findings further.
Recall that the death of Mohbad at the age of 27, on September 12, 2023, sparked widespread controversy and speculation on social media, with fans and the general public clamoring for transparency and justice. The inconclusive results of the autopsy have only intensified the community’s call for a thorough investigation.
