Crypto trading platform Patricia Technologies Limited founder, Fejiro Hanu Agbodje, has revealed that the startup company has made headway into tracking down and recovering the funds stolen from the platform some months ago.
Recall that earlier this year, it had come to light that the gift card trading platform had lost a huge sum of money estimated at $2 million, even though its users were only told that there had been a data breach on its platform.
The incident, sources say, happened back in 2022, and the company managed to keep the development under wraps.
The suspected culprits were recently paraded by officials of the Nigerian Police Force and included a notable politician in the person of Wilfred Bonse, a governorship candidate in the 2023 Cross River election. According to the report, he was instrumental in the laundering of N607,000,000 from the platform.
Speaking on the development, Hanu tweeted on the X social media platform, formerly Twitter, saying:
“An update on Patricia, Here we have the Nigerian Police Force PRO announcing the arrest one Wilfred Bonse and his minions.
Wilfred Bonse was a governorship candidate in Cross River 2023 elections and was used to steal N607,000,000 from Patricia.
This is not all the monies lost, but recovery from this would go a long way to sooth Patricia users.
The case is still being investigated, the hackers used politicians to launder the stolen money. All of whom would be brought to the book. One by One.
My commitment remains to Patricia users, Repayment started on the 20th of November, and it would continue. Until every user is reached.
We still have some grounds to cover, but myself and the Patricia team, we Take this win. Thank you.”
The company has since gone through rounds of layoffs following the incident.
