Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 17th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme in Varanasi on June 18, benefiting over 92.6 million farmers with ₹20,000+ crore. Certificates will be distributed to 30,000+ SHGs trained as Krishi Sakhis. Union Ministers will interact with farmers on agricultural practices.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release the 17th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme in Varanasi on June 18. Over 92.6 million farmers are expected to benefit from a total sum exceeding ₹20,000 crore. The event will also witness the distribution of certificates to more than 30,000 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) trained as Krishi Sakhis to serve as para extension workers.
The ceremony will be attended by Anandiben Patel, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh; Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh; and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Agriculture Minister; alongside several state ministers. More than 25 million farmers are anticipated to participate in the event, including those from 732 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), over 1 lakh Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies, and 5 lakh Common Service Centres nationwide.
A special event will be held at 50 selected Krishi Vikas Kendras (KVKs) where farmers will engage with Union Ministers to learn about best agricultural practices, new technologies in agriculture, climate-resilient farming, and more. The farmers will also receive guidance on checking their PM-KISAN beneficiary status, payment details, and utilising the Kisan-eMitra Chatbot. Union Ministers will personally hand out certificates to the trained Krishi Sakhis in the area.
The PM-KISAN scheme, launched on February 24, 2019, aims to supplement the financial needs of all land-holding farmers, subject to specific exclusion criteria based on income levels. A financial benefit of ₹6,000 per year in three equal instalments is transferred to farmers’ families nationwide through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. Over ₹3.04 lakh crore has been disbursed to more than 11 crore farmers nationwide. With this upcoming release, the total amount transferred to beneficiaries since the scheme’s inception will exceed ₹3.24 lakh crore.
