POS device
Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia totaled approximately SAR 12.35 billion for the week ended Jan. 13, compared to SAR 13.39 billion in the previous week.
Data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed that total POS transactions amounted to around 191.67 million for the week.
POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

During the week, all sectors reported a negative performance, except for the restaurants and cafes, and hotels sectors, which rose by 1% and 11%, respectively.
Education sector topped the worst-performing sectors, retreating by 50%, followed by electronics and electric appliances and furniture by 17% and food & beverages (12%).
Consumer spending was focused on the restaurants and cafes sector, totaling SAR 2.02 billion during the week. The food and beverages sector came next with total POS transactions worth SAR 1.83 billion, as follows:

Riyadh led in terms of POS transactions’ value by cities, accounting for nearly SAR 4.1 billion, or 33.2%, of the total. Jeddah came in second with SAR 1.82 billion, as shown below:
