The account freeze aims to prevent the group from funding an upcoming nationwide protest against poor governance.
Odinkalu questioned the actions of UBA and its chairman, Tony Elumelu.
“Bia, @InibeheEffiong, did u say @TonyOElumelu & his @UBAGroup shut down the account of the
@TIBmovement at the promoting of @NGRPresident & @OfficialAPCNg? Is it time for citizens to close their UBA Accounts. Afterall they are now in power & no longer need our money, ko?” Odinkalu wrote.
The freezing of the account has brought outrage among supporters of the Take It Back Movement.
They view this action as an attempt to silence opposition and prevent citizens from exercising their ight to protest.
The nationwide protests aimed to demand better governance and accountability from the government.
Many argue that the move by UBA is politically motivated.
They claim it reflects the bank’s connection with the current administration and the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This action has raised concerns about the independence of financial institutions in Nigeria and their potential to be used as tools for political repression.
