Black Friday is going strong with tons of great deals on gaming gear, including solid state drives (SSDs) that are perfect for expanding your PS5 console’s storage. One of the best Black Friday PS5 SSD deals right now is on the WD Black SN850X with 1TB of storage.

This reliable SSD is down to $80 on Amazon, which is $100 off its MSRP and just $20 more than the all-time low we saw on Prime Day. Though the standard PS5 comes with 825GB of built-in storage, games that take up 100GB or more are becoming common, so most PS5 gamers can benefit greatly from extra space.

WD BLACK SN850X 1TB SSD with Heatsink

Compared to the original SN850, the WD Black SN850X M.2 NVME SSD offers marked improvements to read and write speeds—up to 7,300MB/s and 6,300MB/s, respectively. This PS5-ready model includes a low-profile heatsink. While this isn’t the best price we’ve seen for this SSD, which was closer to $60 during Prime Day 2023, it’s still an excellent deal for a super fast SSD that adds more than twice the PS5’s built-in storage.

The WD Black SN850X more than doubles the PS5’s built-in storage, and it exceeds the required speeds needed to play PS5 games. It comes with a heatsink as well, which Sony recommends for all PS5 drives. The SSD uses the M.2 form factor with support for the super-fast NVMe/PCIe protocol, so it can also work as a great drive for a gaming PC.

We saw this model sell for a little less (around $60) during Prime Day earlier this year, but this Black Friday deal is still 56% off its full price. It’s unlikely you’ll see this SSD go this low again for a while, so if you’re in the market for extra storage for your PS5, now’s the time to get some.

WD, or Western Digital, has built a stellar reputation for making excellent, reliable data storage devices since the 1970s, so it knows what it’s doing when it comes to hard drives. You pay a premium over some other brands, like Sony’s own Nextorage, but WD’s pedigree and expertise, not to mention the fact that its entire business in based on making storage devices, is not to be ignored.
