Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti put rumors about Arda Guler to bed after the youngster scored in his La Liga debut against Real Sociedad.
The young Turk’s first half strike proved to be the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win at Anoeta, which put Los Blancos 14 points clear at the top ahead of second-placed FC Barcelona hosting Valencia on Monday.
Asked about Guler following the full-time whistle, Ancelotti said “There’s no doubt he’ll stay here next year,” meaning next season, amid rumors that he might be loaned out.
“I really liked his great attitude, fighting and fighting for every ball. He’s going to be very important in the future,” Ancelotti predicted about the 19-year-old, who has “an extraordinary quality, a lot of talent”.
The Italian accepted that Guler could improve his off the ball work yet noted he’s been training very well.
“He’s very young and he’ll come to prominence. We’re talking about a guy who has scored more goals than minutes played and that can only be a gift.”
“People thought we came here to walk around, but the players didn’t,” Ancelotti said in reference to the Friday night fixture, where some tipped Madrid might take it easy considering Tuesday’s Champions League semifinal first leg away at Bayern Munich.
“I am very proud of them, for their commitment, attitude, desire and enthusiasm to continue winning. They wanted to keep the momentum going and I want to thank them for that. In this sense, they have been spectacular,” Ancelotti added.
Asked about some of his line up choices in Bavaria, Ancelotti said that Luka Modric, given his second consecutive start, could “of course” make it three in a row at the Allianz Arena.
“He has shown, as in recent games, an optimal physical condition handling the ball very well in the second half to evade the pressure of Real Sociedad. His [physical] condition is spectacular and of course he can play on Tuesday,” Ancelotti stated.
With Eder Militao back, however, the manager is unsure of who will partner central defender Antonio Rudiger in his homeland with choices other than the Brazilian including captain Nacho and pivot Aurelien Tchouameni.
