Reflecting on 2023 and what’s next for ORBCOMM

As 2023 comes to a close, we’d like to recap this year’s highlights. With most industries recovering from the post-pandemic lows and supply chains finally getting back on track after a prolonged disruption, we found ourselves navigating 2023 with a focus on innovation, partnerships and people.

Summing up our high points from 2023

Continuous innovation

In September 2023, we released our revolutionary dry trailer and container monitoring solution, featuring the solar-powered CT 1000 IoT device, to help further digitalize the container shipping industry. With this new technology, fleets can use their dry container data to inform operations, drive efficiency and promote sustainability.

Smart dashcam

One month later, we launched the FM 6510—our smart dashcam that helps fleets improve their safety, visibility and efficiency on the road. The dashcam detects—and notifies drivers via voice coaching—to unsafe behavior so drivers can make corrections before issues escalate.

Introducing the ORBCOMM Maritime platform

Formerly ReeferConnect, the new and improved ORBCOMM Maritime platform features a more modern, intuitive interface and navigation that’s easier to use. With these new changes, customers will be able to access all their key data on a single screen for seamless reporting—faster and easier than ever before.

Building business partnerships

This year, we partnered up with u-blox to help further strengthen our gap-free global connectivity offerings for IoT solutions. Through this collaboration, u-blox will directly integrate support for ORBCOMM satellite connectivity into their future module products, enabling dual-mode cellular satellite coverage for connected solutions virtually anywhere in the world. Learn more about our work with u-blox.

We’re also happy to welcome FreeWave, a leader in industrial wireless technology, to our global family of more than 400 value-added resellers. By partnering with ORBCOMM, FreeWave can use our pioneering satellite IoT technology to expand the reach of their environmental IoT solutions portfolio to areas outside of cellular coverage, improving their business potential and helping their customers drive decisions with data anywhere, anytime. Events around the world

This year, we attended a wide range of trade shows across the globe, covering transportation, heavy equipment, maritime, cold chain and more. We also participated in a variety of webinars this year where we chatted with industry professionals, partners and customers about key market topics, the latest trends and more.

In February 2023, we hosted “Harvesting Opportunity in the Smart Agriculture Revolution”, where we discussed where smart agriculture is heading and how IoT technology is changing how farmers work. We were also able to chat with our value-added reseller Zeus Agrotech about their experience and why they partnered with ORBCOMM to build their solutions. If you missed that webinar, you can still watch it on demand.

Later in the year, we held “Data-Driven Boxes: Closing Critical Information Gaps in Container Shipping” with the Journal of Commerce, where we chatted about digitalization in shipping in and the role of smart containers in removing some of the industry’s biggest blockers, such as route disruptions, port congestion and emission regulations. Watch the webinar.

Continuing with container shipping, we held a fireside chat with Hapag-Lloyd where we discussed the demand for dry container monitoring, where the industry is heading and, of course, their industry-changing mass deployment of dry containers fitted with ORBCOMM telematics technology. You can watch the entire fireside chat.

Our new smart dashcam was the main attraction at “Seeing Success: How Smart Dashcams Protect Service Fleets”. We shared how service fleets can foster a safety-first culture, reduce operational risk, limit false insurance claims and more. Watch the webinar.

Last month, we hosted “Drilling deep into IoT’s role in the Middle East oil and gas sector” in partnership with Oil & Gas Middle East magazine. We were joined by two of our industry leading VARs—Machinestalk and Falcon Mega Solutions—who discussed how they’re using IoT technology to optimize oil and gas operations in the Middle East.

Continuing our culture of excellence

We’re honored to have won, or been nominated, for numerous awards this year based on our industry experience and product innovation:

Winner of the Irish Logistics & Transport Awards 2023 Technology Provider of the Year
Winner of IoT Evolution’s 2023 Industrial IoT Product of the Year for the CT 1000
Recognized by the Women in Trucking Association as one of the 2023 Top Companies for Women to Work for in Transportation
Finalist for the 2023 Safety4Sea Technology Award for the CT 3500

As we look forward to the new year, we would like to thank our customers for choosing to do business with us and all our partners and employees for their tremendous work and dedication to the industry.Stayed tuned in 2024 as we release new product developments and powerful partnerships that continue to help our customers drive decisions with data.
