The removal of Rohit Sharma as captain of Mumbai Indians continues to make buzz on social media . On Friday, Hardik Pandya was named Mumbai Indians captain, replacing highly-successful Rohit Sharma, who led the IPL giants to five trophies, a feat only equalled by MS Dhoni-led CSK. Though Rohit Sharma has not reacted yet, his wife Ritika Sajdeh has responded to a social media post from Chennai Super Kings.
Ritika Sajdeh reacted with a yellow-coloured heart sign to CSK’s Instagram post of “2013 – 2023 : A decade of spirited challenge! Much respect, Rohit!”. Yellow is a jersey colour of Chennai Super Kings.
Ace cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle in a post on X said that the move to name Hardik Pandya captain of Mumbai Indians was expected after the Pandya in November moved from Gujarat Titans (GT) to his former franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) in a trade between both franchises. Hardik had led GT to title win in their debut iin 2022 while it finished runners-up in their second season.
Rohit Sharma’s wife reacted to CSK’s post
“That Hardik Pandya would be captain of Mumbai Indians was an open secret. Rohit Sharma can lay claim to being, with MS Dhoni, the finest leader in the IPL. It may not be a bad idea to let him relax and have fun because the IPL can take a lot out of you and he will have led India in 5 tests a little before that. While this is a move keeping in mind the next few years, it will be a huge challenge for Hardik given the number of stars in the side and the ambition of the franchise. It makes Mumbai Indians the team to watch this year.,” Harsha Bhogle said.
After announcing the news of the captaincy change, Mumbai India put up post on social media for Rohit.

“Ro, In 2013 you took over as captain of MI. You asked us to Believe. In victories & defeats, you asked us to Smile. 10 years & 6 trophies later, here we are. Our forever captain your legacy will be etched in Blue & Gold. Thank you, Captain RO,” wrote MI on X, formerly Twitter.
Earlier in a statement on Friday, Mumbai Indians said the change in leadership was part of their future planning and thanked Rohit for his exemplary service to the franchise.
Mumbai Indians are the most successful IPL franchise alongside Chennai Super Kings who both have won five titles each.
Rohit, who recently led India to the ODI World Cup final, had been captaining the franchise since 2013 when they lifted first of their five IPL trophies.
