Galaxy Z Fold 6 leaks have revealed a more evolutionary rather than revolutionary design. Samsung may push it as the first AI-foldable while the design and specification of key elements will be carried over from previous models.
The latest details come from certification filed by Samsung with the Indian authorities. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) lists details on the batteries that will ship inside both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6; the Z Fold 6 is listed with battery part numbers EB-BF956ABE and EB-BF956ABY. 91mobiles’ G S Vasan points out these part numbers echo the format of the batteries listed for 2022’s Z Fold 4.
Many of the current flagship phones, including the Z Fold 5, are equipped with two independent batteries, enabling faster charging of up to 25W. While it’s unlikely that the Z Fold 6 will reach that high value, it’s worth noting that the current Galaxy S24 Ultra can reach 45W charging speeds, but only on Samsung’s charger.
Smartphones that rely on a single battery, like the Z Fold 6, offer a different approach. While they may have slower charging times, this design choice optimizes the battery’s performance over the smartphone’s lifetime, ensuring a longer-lasting device for the users.
Another advantage of using two batteries is that they are beneficial for a foldable smartphone. Designers can use the two dense batteries on either side of the hinge. Thanks to the balance created by the design, the unfolded Z Fold 6 should be comfortably held with little strain.
While the BIS documentation does not offer the exact specifications of the batteries, recent filings with China’s 3C department list the Z Fold 6 shipping with the same 25W charger as last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 5. In terms of capacity, that may be confirmed by certification soon. Still, reliable commentator @IceUniverse suggests that the similarities to previous Fold models will not stop with the 25W charger, as the Z Fold 6 will ship with the same 4000 mAh capacity as previous models.
Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 during July’s Galaxy Unpacked event.
