Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said Saudi Arabia, through “THE LINE” project, seeks to create new civilization for tomorrow, and encourages other countries to keep with the same thing.
In a documentary on the Discovery Channel, the Crown Prince noted that THE LINE is the first of its kind in the world, adding, “I promise we will gain something new and creative.”
Touching on the incentives of developing the new city, he said the population in Saudi Arabia will double from 33 million currently to 50-55 million people by 2030.
“By 2030, we will reach the full capacity of the existing infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, which raised very important questions about building new cities,” the Crown Prince said.
“They say that a lot of projects in Saudi Arabia cannot be done, and this is very ambitious. However, they cannot keep saying that, and we will not keep proving them wrong,” he added.
Commenting on the idea of the project, he said the Kingdom has an empty place, and it seeks to provide a place for nearly 10 million people. “Hence, let think from scratch. We talked about a lot of ideas why cannot we build a circle and start connecting it with the means transport or trains, then start building and expanding it gradually until it is completed by 2030.”
“We brainstormed, worked as a team, did a competition for the best designers in the world who provided us with city models in match with the existing but with the best solutions, except for a designer who adopted the idea and proposed to turn the circle to a line,” the Crown Prince said.
He pointed out that the northwestern part of Saudi Arabia is an intangible and semi-empty area, with a diverse nature and terrain, which is considered the suitable place for skiing and diving.
“We have the models now and are working on them,” the Crown Prince said, stressing that this project meets the growing demand in Saudi Arabia, and is based on a new way for building cities and living.
