The Minister of Commerce and Chairman of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), Majid Al-Kassabi, approved amendments to the executive regulations of the Saudi Building Code (SBC), which will come into effect from the date of its publication in the official gazette.

The regulation stipulates a fine of SAR 10,000 on the owner when carrying out construction without contracting a certified or licensed engineering office by the relevant authority. Additionally, work will be halted until a contract is made with a certified or licensed engineering office or contractor by the relevant authority.
