Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh.
The Federal Ministry of Sports Development has responded to recent allegations made by Hon. Ekene Adams, Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, against the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh.
In a press release, the Ministry spokesperson, Mrs Kehinde Ajayi described Hon. Adams’ claims as “self-serving and unpatriotic”.
According to the Ministry, Hon. Adams’ allegations of insincerity and opaqueness in the disbursement of funds are unfounded and mischievous. The Ministry clarified that no budgetary provision was made for the renovation and maintenance of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in the 2024 appropriation, contrary to Hon. Adams’ claims.
Regarding the N12 billion Federal Government’s Intervention Fund, the Ministry explained that the funds were transferred to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) account, and the process was transparent and accountable.
The Ministry also highlighted the Minister’s commitment to transparency and accountability, citing his leadership and reforms in the sports sector. The Minister has been praised for his openness and engagement with athletes and stakeholders, providing detailed information about their entitlements and ensuring prompt payment.
The Ministry concluded that Hon. Adams’ allegations are a personal vendetta and an attempt to demarket the sports sector. The Minister remains committed to national interest and will continue to resist attempts by selfish interests to undermine his reforms.
