President Bola Tinubu has charged state governors and local government authorities to prioritise the needs of their people, admitting a significant disconnect between Nigeria’s political leaders and the communities they serve.
The President stated this on Thursday at a meeting with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He critiqued the tendency of politicians to engage with local communities only during election periods.
“Maybe we should look at recalibrating. What was good four years ago may not be good today. When we want the votes, we go to the locals; when we get the votes, we move to and focus on Abuja,” Tinubu said.
He emphasised the urgency of addressing the needs of local communities where Nigerians work, live, and farm.
Tinubu to Sack Non-Performing Ministers
President Tinubu also issued a stern warning to his cabinet, vowing to dismiss any member who falls short of serving the Nigerian populace effectively.
“I thank the cabinet members for their efforts, but I will relieve any of them of their duties anytime I feel that they are failing Nigerians,” he declared.
On Security
On the topic of national security, Tinubu reassured the public of his administration’s commitment to safety, praising the efforts of National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
“Everybody wants to be secure, and we need to invest more in technology. We will do it, I promise you.
“We will put our heart and soul into ensuring that Nigeria is secure and its citizens are protected,” he assured.
