The West Point Association of Graduates awarded Turner Construction Co. a $133.5-million construction manager contract for the upcoming $170-million Michie Stadium Preservation Project at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., the contractor recently announced. Work is scheduled to start next month.
The 38,000-seat stadium was originally built in 1924. It hosts the Army Black Knights football and lacrosse teams, as well as other campus events.
The scope of the project includes demolition of the current east stands, which were built in 1962 and lack modern amenities according to the graduates association. In its place, the project team will build a 160,000-sq-ft structure with new seating options such as suites, plus a Corps of Cadets seating section running the length of the field and improved concessions.
The project also includes landscaping reconfiguration and the creation of a new pedestrian plaza between the east stands and Lusk Reservoir, which sits behind the stands.

As ENR previously reported, the site presents challenges with space and security concerns associated with a military facility. Luigi Morfea, construction executive at Turner, said in a statement that the team developed a logistics plan to deal with those issues and keep Michie Stadium open for football and lacrosse during construction.
The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2026, in time for the following football season.
