United Airlines has added three new weekly flights between Auckland and Los Angeles.

The inaugural United flight of UA642, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, will depart Auckland at 3.40pm tomorrow.

The company said the non-stop service would fly three times a week to start with, before increasing to four times a week in December.

The new service was part of the airline’s broader expansion efforts in Aotearoa.

“At United, we’re very proud to add three new weekly flights between Auckland and Los Angeles. It’s been a strong year of growth for the airline in the South Pacific and we look forward to connecting more people with their favourite destinations,” said Tim Wallis, Regional Manager, Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti.

United said that by the end of this year, it would operate double the number of flights in New Zealand that it did in 2019 — before the Covid-19 pandemic curtailed aviation.

In December, United will also inaugurate the first nonstop flight from Christchurch to the US. with three weekly flights to San Francisco.
