UPDATED: Sanusi Defies Court Order, Arrives Kano to Pick Reappointment Letter

Muhammadu Sanusi II, the once and now again Emir of Kano, is currently in the state to pick up his appointment letter, ignoring a court order that tried to put his reinstatement on hold.

On Thursday, the Kano State House of Assembly repealed the Kano Emirate Councils Bill 2019, signed into law by former Kano governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

The incumbent Governor of the state, Abba Kabir Yusuf assented to the new bill, which dissolves the four newly created Emirates – Gaya, Rano, Karaye, and Bichi, restoring Sanusi as the undisputed leader of the Kano Emirate.

A formal welcome-back ceremony, hosted by Governor Yusuf, is currently underway at the Kano government house. Sanusi is expected to receive his appointment letter at the gathering.

Dignitaries, including senior government officials and traditional rulers are present at the ceremony, Leadership reports.

It was gathered that the program will partly proceed as follows: Governor Yusuf will give a speech, followed by an acceptance speech by Muhammadu Sanusi, and then, the district heads and key traditional figures will pledge their loyalty to the new emir.

The moment Gov. Yusuf presented the letter of reinstatement as the Emir of Kano to Muhammadu Sanusi.

“We return Sanusi out of conviction that he was victimised in 2019.” the Governor said. “We also return him as the rightful Emir of Kano, to continue the good job he was doing for the good of Kano People.”

Speaking on the repealed bill, Yusuf noted: “Your reappointment was guided by the collective belief and judgement of your competency, dedication and zeal for the development of Kano State and it’s environs.

“As you ascend the throne of the Kano Emirate of Kano State, you should be guided in your conducts by the teachings of Islam which you are known for.”
