‘What India can and will be all about’: Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani applauds Praggnanandhaa’s chess triumphs
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Gautam Adani, the head of Adani Group, recently met with the young chess sensation, Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa and took the opportunity to applaud his achievements as a symbol of inspiration for the youth in India. He also shared a photo with Praggnanandhaa on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing how the chess prodigy’s success reflects India’s potential.

Adani took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a picture with the chess prodigy, saying that his success is an inspiration to young Indians and he represents “what India can and will be all about”.

“It’s a privilege to support Praggnanandhaa as he continues to win laurels in the world of chess and make India proud. His success is an inspiration to countless young Indians to believe that nothing is more gratifying than standing on the podium to celebrate our nation’s greatness. Praggnanandhaa represents what India can and will be all about. I wish him all the very best. Jai Hind,” said Adani in a tweet.

In response, Praggnanandhaa expressed gratitude for the Adani Group’s trust in his abilities, affirming his commitment to bringing further glory to the nation through his performances on the global stage. His achievements, including becoming the youngest chess player to reach the World Cup final in 2023 and securing victories against Magnus Carlsen in 2022, have propelled India’s presence in the chess world.

At just 18 years old, Praggnanandhaa’s remarkable journey in chess began at the age of 5, culminating in his title as India’s youngest Grandmaster at age 12. Notably, he and his sister R. Vaishali hold the distinction of being the world’s first brother-sister Grandmaster duo.

Last year, Praggnanandhaa faced World Number 1 Magnus Carlsen in the International Chess Federation World Cup, demonstrating remarkable prowess despite Carlsen’s victory. His resilience and performance earned him a silver medal in the men’s team competition at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Recognized as one of India’s brightest chess talents, Praggnanandhaa’s collaboration with the Adani Group signifies a significant boost to his career trajectory. Chairman Gautam Adani expressed pride in supporting Praggnanandhaa, highlighting the athlete’s rapid progress and dedication as an exemplary model for all Indians.

Notably, Praggnanandhaa and German GM Vincent Keymer are jointly ranked as the world’s top juniors with an identical FIDE rating of 2743, a testament to their exceptional skill. Notably, Indian GMs Gukesh Dommaraju, Vidit Gujrathi, and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu are set to compete in the 2024 FIDE Candidates, showcasing India’s strong presence in competitive chess.

The Adani Group’s extensive support for sporting talent, through initiatives like #GarvHai, extends across various disciplines, aiding athletes like Praggnanandhaa, Commonwealth Games gold medallists Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Deepak Punia, and boxer Amit Panghal, who have garnered accolades at the global level, including the Olympics and Asian Games.
