Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has initiated a comprehensive audit of the financial records from the last three years for all 23 Local Government Areas in the state.
This directive was announced during the swearing-in of the Caretaker Committee Chairmen at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The Governor had on Tuesday ordered the immediate past local government chairmen, who are believed to be loyal to Fubara’s embattled predecessor, Nyesom Wike, after their tenure expired on Monday.
By reviewing the financial activities of the past Local Government administrations, Fubara seeks to uncover possible discrepancies and enforce good governance practices.
This move also sets a standard for the incoming caretaker chairmen, emphasising the importance of fiscal responsibility and integrity in office.
In addition to the financial audits, Governor Fubara has also called for a thorough investigation into the tenures of the outgoing local government chairmen.
This step reflects the administration’s commitment to cleaning up Governance at the local level and preventing the misuse of public funds.
