With ₦800k, Are You Still Considered a First-Class Citizen?

Gone are the days when an ₦800k salary guaranteed a luxurious lifestyle in Nigeria.

The rising cost of living, fueled by inflation and currency devaluation, has squeezed the value of this once-comfortable income.

So, the question is: does ₦800k still grant you first-class citizen status in Nigeria?

The answer isn’t straightforward. It depends on your lifestyle choices. With responsible budgeting, a family can still achieve a decent standard of living on this income.

There might be some adjustments, but necessities like housing, food, and education could be covered.

However, the “first-class” label might be a stretch. Forget lavish vacations and splurges on luxury items.

Even Rachel Edwards, a former Big Brother Naija personality, ignited social media with a comment suggesting ₦800k wouldn’t even cover the cost of a wig!

Her statement, while perhaps flippant, highlights the strain a high cost of living puts on discretionary spending.

The reality is, ₦800k offers a middle-class existence for many Nigerians.

It allows you to live comfortably but not extravagantly. The “first-class” title might be reserved for significantly higher-income people.

This debate goes beyond individual circumstances. It reflects the economic challenges Nigeria faces. With strategic financial planning, ₦800k can still provide a decent life.

But for many Nigerians, achieving true “first-class” status requires a stronger economy and a higher standard of living for all.

What Netizens Are Saying on the “With ₦800k” Tweet

Twitter is on fire right now, because of the tweet made by a former BBnaija housemate.

Omar little – “₦800k is being ridiculed as not enough in a country whose minimum wage is 30k, a large percentage of Nigerians earn less than 200k a month btw with 800k guaranteed income per month in minna, I’ll have 3 police hilux escorting me everywhere”

JUST KINGS: “With ₦800k monthly salary in Nigeria, you can marry, pay rent, trained at least 2 children in school and still saved to buy car comfortably.

Don’t let anybody pressure you with lies”.

OMOTAYO Of Lagos – “To heII with Twitter standard, with ₦800k you can live a good life in Lagos as a family man, forget what all these woke people are pushing in the TL, with the current state of Nigeria even if you earn between 400-500k monthly you can still live a good life if you make a proper plan”
