Well over a year after it premiered, the “Yellowstone” prequel series “1883” has found new life – on the basic cable home of its progenitor.
Whilst “Yellowstone” has always premiered new episodes on Paramount Network, the show’s various spin-offs have all been Paramount+ SVOD service exclusives designed to entice audiences to sign up.
“1883” premiered in December 2021 with the first two episodes released simultaneously on both Paramount Network and Paramount+ before the remainder of the season stuck exclusively to the Paramount+ service.
In terms of cable ratings alone, those airing pulled in just under 5 million viewers for the first episode and around 4.31 million for the second a week later. The series has also been available in full on Paramount+ and in VOD stores for well over a year.
Now, Paramount Network is giving the series a full-season run this Summer with the first two episodes broadcast on Sunday night where it still managed to draw 3.8 million viewers.
If it were a new series, that would make it the most watched scripted debut on cable since “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” in 2020.
“1883” follows the generation of the Dutton family that first settles what will become Yellowstone Ranch. Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Isabel May, LaMonica Garrett, Marc Rissmann, Audie Rick, Eric Nelsen and James Landry Hébert star.
