Animal rights activists in Indonesia are out for justice after two men were filmed tossing a live dog into a crocodile-infested swamp, footage of which went viral in the country recently.
The video, believed to be taken in Tarakan, North Kalimantan, depicts two men in work coveralls grabbing a dog from both ends before they swung the poor canine and tossed it into the swamp.
The crocodiles pounced on the dog within moments, killing it.
Two other men, who appear to be acquaintances, filmed the incident while they all laughed.
Local police have not issued a statement regarding the video.
A coalition of Jakarta-based animal rights groups, including Animal Defenders Indonesia, say they have identified the culprits.
“We plan to fly from Jakarta to Tarakan to report them to local police,” Animal Defenders Indonesia founder Doni Herdaru Tona said in a press statement issued today.
Animal abuse is not considered a serious offense in Indonesia. Under the Criminal Code (KUHP), killing an animal is a crime punishable by only up to 9 months in prison.
