pH-In Healthy Skin System
Pronounced “fin,” this system comes at acne from a new direction—by focusing on repairing and maintaining the skin’s microbiome, including beneficial bacteria living on its surface. “Our microbiome is part of the layer that defends our insides from the harms of the outside world,” LoGerfo says. “When it’s disrupted, diseases such as acne, eczema, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, or rosacea can occur.” Rather than lean into traditional acne-fighting ingredients, which wipe out both bad and good bacteria, these products balance the skin’s pH, keeping it in a range that encourages beneficial bacteria to flourish but thwarts the acne-causing sort. Meanwhile, bio-succinic acid, an alternative to salicylic acid, gently exfoliates and reduces sebum production, while a Chinese plant extract called E.
